I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel ? which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Gal 1:6-9

Judgment Day? On May 21, 2011? At 6pm? Really?

Harold Camping, of “Family Radio” apparently believes and is spreading the word that Judgment DayEnd of Earth will occur on May 21, 2011, when believers will be taken by God from the Earth immediately before He begins His final judgments upon sinful humanity.  Mr. Camping also predicts that the end of the world will finally occur on October 21, 2011.

It is difficult to deny the signs that we may be living in the last days.  Clearly we are living in a time of a great falling away from all things God.  Sin and disbelief in the sacred generally dominates.  We also live in a time of great natural disasters: earthquakes, storms, floods, and the like – certainly beyond anything in my lifetime.  Even my parents – both born during the great depression – also speak of these times as unprecedented in their lifetimes.  The signs of the times certainly appear to fit the general pattern that the Bible says will prevail in the last days.  And the Bible very clearly states that Christ will return to an unprepared world.  We desperately need a great revival to turn the world back to the Truth!

However no matter how sincerely that Mr. Camping believes his message, I strongly question that any person can know with such precision when Christ will return.

What does the Bible say on the topic?

  • In Matthew 25:13, Jesus said: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
  • In 2 Peter 3:1, the Apostle Peter wrote: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief” (i.e. unexpectedly).
  • In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, the Apostle Paul wrote: “Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”
  • In Matthew 24:36, Jesus said: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Mr. Camping is claiming knowledge for himself that neither angels, nor even Jesus Christ Himself has! Personally, I choose to believe the Apostles and Jesus on this subject.  We are certainly living in disturbing times, and we are closer to the end than we have ever been.  But Mr. Camping is deceiving himself!
