The Lost Tomb of Jesus: by which God are you motivated?
In its new production, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus”, the Discovery Channel is preparing to air evidence from those who claim to have uncovered the final resting place (and bones) of Jesus Christ.
Could these claims really be credible?
Let’s be clear. Were these claims to be proven, it would show that the disciples of Jesus:
1. Perpetrated the most elaborate and cruel hoax in all of history.
2. That most of them died incredibly painful deaths for this “story”, deaths that they could have easily avoided by simply denying the tale.
3. That the brother of Jesus, James, was in on the conspiracy and also was killed without giving up the tale.
This story, if true, would obviously show the hopes of millions of believers to be a false hope. As the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:
If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead (NIV)
But does “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” really present a credible story?
If so then why didn’t the first-century Jewish leaders simply kill this Christian myth by showing Jesus body to those who claimed that He had risen? If it were in such a prominent tomb, then it would surely have been accessible to them; why didn’t they simply parade the body around Jerusalem? Why not? Because they couldn’t produce it!
What is the truth? The truth is that we have yet more opportunists who want to create a sensational story in pursuit of the almighty dollar apparently the highest god of those involved in this fiasco.
But don’t simply take my word for it. There are a number of scholarly articles that have been written to respond to this rubbish. These include:
Why not find the truth for yourself?
