McCain to pick Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as VP Running Mate

In a bold move, John McCain has apparently selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential Running-Mate.

From her web site, she is:

  1. Pro Family
  2. Pro Traditional Marriage
  3. Pro Life
  4. Pro Gun Rights
  5. An advocate of increased drilling for oil and natural gas
  6. Believes that Global Warming is a large issue, but is skeptical that it is caused by humans.

She is young and relatively inexperienced – but still has more executive experience than Barack Obama.

This is a very interesting choice, and a fresh face.

Honor thy Father…

On this Father’s Day, 2006, I thought it appropriate to take a few minutes to thank myDad father for some things that, by example, he has taught me over the years. Yes, Dad, your children were watching and listening.

Like, for example:

  1. The importance of family. Indelibly marked on my memory are the many family vacations that we took together when I was growing up. And the times that we spent together on Sundays at your parents. These things helped bind us together as a family, and gave me the desire to pass on this legacy to my girls.
  2. The importance of being a protector to my family. When we were growing up, we always had the “toughest Dad”, and he was OUR protector and advocate. I want to be that for my kids!
  3. The importance of being a good provider. We may not have been rich in material things, but we also were never in want. And you and Mom modeled riches to your kids that cannot be bought for any amount of money.
  4. To stand by the mother of my children. This has been very important in that you passed on ideals that have helped me to face the temptations that are common to all men.
  5. Your demonstration of strong character. Never once did I see you inappropriately lose control of yourself. Nor did you act deceitfully in your actions towards others. You always strived to be a better example to your kids than the next man.

Dad, you were always a rock. Together, you and Mom provided a source of stability that was priceless and desperately needed by a son who was going through the inner turmoil of youth.

Imperfectly yes. But, by your example, you have modeled many of the attributes of our Heavenly Father. And by seeing you model these attributes, my heart was left open to extending trust to our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

For all of these things I thank you and honor you. Happy Father’s Day 2006 Dad!
