Man-made global warming: Is it the largest threat to our future? Very possibly! But NOT for the reasons that you may have been told.
There is ample evidence for global warming, but doom-Sayers are telling us that greenhouse gases, produced by the burning of fossil fuels and other human
activities, are the cause - which they claim is threatening to destroy planet Earth. Is humanity the cause? The evidence challenges this assertion, but our attempts to fix the issue - by attacking the wrong problems, are indeed a very large threat!
The idea of man-made global warming will certainly allow select people to gain a power over our lives. And attempts to mitigate an improperly diagnosed cause will prevent us from effectively addressing real threats - such as those caused by scarce energy supplies and terrorism.
Now we clearly have an unhealthy reliance on Arab oil, which generates the primary funding for global terrorism. But if we fight the wrong battles, then we bankrupt ourselves and limit our options for creating energy independence. We have made the idea of man-made global warming an extreme threat; thereby translating an artificial threat into a real one that could destroy us!
But are humans causing global warming?
Did you know that evidence points to global warming on Mars also?

UponTruth is on YouTube - see us at YouTube.com/UponTruth.
In this article, I tell a little about how I came to belief and describe a rational approach to the pursuit of Truth. Note that I also posted a video version of this on YouTube - it can be found at http://youtube.com/watch?v=yVT7RNSPNi4
I wasn’t raised in a Christian home and, except for the rare funeral, I never went to a formal Church service when growing up. In fact, I don’t recall anyone ever sharing their Christian faith with me. But perhaps I wasn’t listening - what interested me was science!I spent my youth fascinated by science and technology. I read a lot of science fiction — I loved Heinlein and Asimov, and was absolutely captivated by the Apollo moon program. I guess you’d have to say that science was my god.In college, I studied for and received a bachelor of science. But after closely examining science’s claims about reality, I became more skeptical.

Many people use Albert Einstein as an ICON for Science and rightly so. But many do not know his views on Christianity. No, he was not a Christian but he held certain views about Jesus, the Gospels and the Christian Church. In an interview in the Saturday Evening Post, we find the following dialogue:
“To what extent are you influenced by Christianity?
As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene.
Have you read Emil Ludwig’s book on Jesus?
Emil Ludwig’s Jesus is shallow. Jesus is too colossal for the pen of phrasemongers, however artful. No man can dispose of Christianity with a bon mot [a witty remark].
You accept the historical existence of Jesus?
Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.”

As a boy, I was in awe of America’s space program. The bigger-than-life vision of landing a man on the moon is what led me to study engineering and culminated in a high-technology career. Apollo inspired me and others of my generation to dream big dreams.
Now China has announced that, by 2017, it plans to perform a feat that a once youthful America achieved nearly half a century earlier (than this date) — to land a Man on the Moon. As is demonstrated by their recently successful manned space missions and heavy launch vehicle program, they are making great strides towards this goal.
Who cares if China lands a man on the moon? After all, America did it more than 35 years ago. Unfortunately, the first moon landings are now ancient history and a lost capability; America has squandered the ability to follow-up on the dreams of Apollo. We can’t even safely fly people to orbit, much less to the moon or beyond. Even were it a national priority, today we no longer have the launch systems to establish a presence on the moon. Although NASA has announced plans to return America to the moon by 2018, with the gap in launch vehicles and the huge demands on the national budget, this may well be a pipe dream.
Should we be alarmed that China strives to dominate the high-frontier? YES and for the same reasons that we could not allow Soviet dominion there. The Soviet communists were a very real threat and focused their energies towards trying to “bury” us. If they had been allowed to gain significant superiority in space operations, then today we would be living in a much different world.
